Consider renaming?

[edit]

Imlay brothers might be more appropriate, with redirects from the three individuals' names. On the other hand, if there is more info about the other two, perhaps articles on each one might be created. Carbon Caryatid (talk) 13:15, 6 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I agree about renaming the page the Imlay brothers with redirects from their individual names. There is not that much information available about the other two brothers so seperate pages for them would be difficult. Histragic (talk) 22:42, 6 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 17 June 2018

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Moved to Imlay brothers, with appropriate redirects created. This being a newish article and seeing the consensus on this talk page, I think it can be closed early. No such user (talk) 12:10, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Alexander Imlay → ? – Please place your rationale for the proposed move here. Carbon Caryatid (talk) 21:35, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It should be titled Imlay brothers, as explained in the section above, but unfortunately that's already a redirect. I suspect something will need to be unravelled first. Carbon Caryatid (talk) 21:37, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support at Imlay brothers. The existing redirect is no problem - someone with the appropriate tools can delete the redirect so the move can take place as part of finalising the move. I was a little bit iffy about moving this to an article on the brothers rather than giving them separate articles, but Google provides a ton of examples (including the ADB) of them being referred to jointly so this seems like a good call. The Drover's Wife (talk) 22:06, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

Years of birth

[edit]

ADB specifies Alexander's year of birth at 1800? and Peter's at 1797. Currently we have the former at 1974, cited to Howard, that I cannot access, and the latter at 1791. Please double-check and/or cite as needed. No such user (talk) 12:58, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The Howard article is available in Academia.edu (Histragic (talk) 22:52, 22 June 2018 (UTC)) Histragic (talk) 22:52, 22 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Photos

[edit]

I found photos of Alexander [1] and Peter [2] on the web. They should be out of copyright and thus useful for us but I'm not well-versed with image copyright policies. No such user (talk) 14:29, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The image of Peter has been around for a while. The one of Alexander is new to me. A good find.(Histragic (talk) 23:00, 22 June 2018 (UTC)) Histragic (talk) 23:00, 22 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed split

[edit]

I see this has been discussed above. My reason for proposing to split the article is that I am gradually working through cleaning up all of the erroneous blue links in Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/To-do/Australian Dictionary of Biography, using Wikidata as a tool, since the ADB entries have been entered into Wikidata. At present, Wikidata has more information on each of the brothers (Q24082396, Q24250704, Q21535292) than it has on them as a set (Q55614337). The article already has a section for each brother, and the references appear to be distinct (noting that the three ADB URLs lead to articles containing the same body text). --Scott Davis Talk 03:06, 8 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds reasonable. The Henty brothers each have seperate entries.(Histragic (talk) 05:31, 8 October 2018 (UTC))[reply]
I agree, eminently reasonable. It makes most sense to preserve the edit history at Alexander Imlay, where the article initially resided, and most material is still about him. I'm a Wikipedia:Page mover so I can swap the titles, just give me a ping when you're ready to execute the split. No such user (talk) 07:22, 8 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
